Official: EU summit unanimously extends sanctions against Russia
BRUSSELS, Dec 17 (PRIME) -- The E.U. leaders at the summit in Brussels unanimously voted to extend economic sanctions against Russia, President of the European Council Charles Michel said in a statement on Twitter on Friday.
“EUCO (European Council) leaders unanimously agreed to roll over economic sanctions against Russia,” Michel said.
According to Michel, European leaders also called on Russia “to keep its part of the bargain and proceed with Minsk implementation.”
The E.U. economic sanctions, first imposed on July 31, 2014 and since then extended multiple times, target Russia’s financial, energy and defense sectors. In March 2015, the sanctions were linked to the “full implementation of the Minsk agreements.” Since then, the restrictions have been renewed every six months.
